# Demoing the Basedash Slackbot

We'd just launched a Slackbot for [Basedash](https://www.tomjohn.design/content/basedash), and I felt like it needed a demo. Inside Basedash you can already talk to your database, and ours has Slack, Stripe, warehouse and Segment data all dumping into it. So I asked about myself, how active I'd been, and it wrote 12, 14 different queries to understand what that meant [(0:20)](#t=20). I've been extremely active building charts and dashboards in 2025. We use it when people sign up, to see how active they've been, or to understand how a workspace is using the product, or to debug something, like how long the loading time for chats has been over time [(0:38)](#t=38).

![Basedash's answer about my own activity, charts and dashboards created by month, captioned as I say: “So in this situation I asked about myself. I said like show me the activity of me how active I've been it wrote 12 14 different queries to understand what that means”](https://nlzkl2bo0qmd3uti.public.blob.vercel-storage.com/talks/clips/basedash-slackbot/asked-about-myself-VoRbBrpnr2njaPxSG118ZcGxfGOLqR.mp4 "Clip")

The new part is that we launched it in Slack [(1:06)](#t=66). I can mention Basedash and ask something like how many people visited our website today versus yesterday. We already get notifications in Slack from other services, signups and that kind of stuff, so when a question comes up I don't have to leave, and the whole team can ask it together [(1:19)](#t=79). It writes the query in the background, I get a notification when it's done, and it's 250 unique visitors today and 587 yesterday [(1:42)](#t=102).

![Mentioning Basedash in the website channel in Slack, captioned as I say: “so what I can do here is I can just mention Basedash and I could say something like Show me how many people visited our website today versus yesterday”](https://nlzkl2bo0qmd3uti.public.blob.vercel-storage.com/talks/clips/basedash-slackbot/mention-basedash-6eRZSJaI8tUVdP1QRJqT4fgeVdnAhz.mp4 "Clip")

Then I asked a follow-up in the thread, mentioning it again: rank where this week's visitors came from, Reddit, LinkedIn or anywhere else [(1:52)](#t=112). I showed off website data because it's easier to share than talking to my product data in front of you [(2:17)](#t=137). The visualization is middling, and we were working on making it better, but Reddit and Framer were giving us a lot of traffic, and that's really cool to see when you have a one-off question [(2:53)](#t=173).

We were starting to share it with our customers, and I had a sneaking suspicion it was going to be the most popular feature we'd ever launched, because all of a sudden Slack is Basedash, and it's a teammate you can ask whatever you want [(2:35)](#t=155). So I had to demo it.

When I posted it on X I wrote:
